For 20 years, I’ve been doing web design in Gainesville, Florida, and for clients nationwide. In my field, that’s forever. I’ve had a long time to figure out what I like to do and what works for me and for those who seek my help. So today I’d like to share what you should expect when getting a website from me.
When we start a project together, I will ask you what your needs are for your website. What do you want your site to accomplish? Do you want your website to reach customers in Gainesville or worldwide? How many pages will you need? How much content do you want to add? Are there any special features you need? What’s your style? About 90% of the time these days, I don’t meet my clients in person. Thanks to the power of technology, we can create an entire website via phone and email, saving us both on travel time. I prefer email for ongoing discussion, because it keeps a record of what we’ve talked about. I strive to answer email within 24 business hours and to complete most work requests within 3 business days, depending upon complexity of the work.
People ask me all the time: “How much is a website?” My answer is: “How much is a red car?” Obviously, it depends on what kind of website you want, how many features it has, and how much content you add. A simple website with 5 pages can start anywhere from $550 to $750, depending on the options. Adding shopping carts, mailing lists, slideshows, forms, social media links and other things is extra. Payment for your site is due upon initiating the project. Payment plans are available through PayPal with approval. I accept checks, and credit cards through PayPal only.
Another popular question is, “How long will it take to build my website?” Again, it depends on what kind of site you are getting and on how quickly you provide the content for the site and get back to me with approvals on each stage of development. A simple, 5-page website with no extras can take as little as 7 to 14 business days. For a quick turnaround, you will need to be ready with your logo, sample sites you like, text and photos for every page on your site, and any login information needed to access your domain and hosting. Regardless, you should be prepared to allow at least 6 to 8 weeks for most sites to cover all the details.
Like I said, I’ve been a Gainesville based web designer for two decades, so I’m not going anywhere. I can’t tell you how many clients come to me and say that their web designer just disappeared and stopped returning their calls, or that their nephew dropped the ball on finishing their site. I love what I do and plan to build websites far into the future. My web design clients can rest easy, knowing that I’m a real person who is just a phone call or email away.
